Defending of Kimathi disgrace to talk radio

First Prev 1 2 Next Last
Turn-off: Sherri J, above

Dear Sir,

After listening to the dialogues, referencing the speaker that has now been placed on the stop list, I have to say the twists and defending of this man, and the referencing of religion, politics and social aspects have been nothing more than a disgrace to talk radio — and thus to us as a people.

How many of us would defend the talk if this man were a white “gentleman” for white supremacy? They, unfortunately, are out there, spewing the exact same hatred and damaging rhetoric.

I can only imagine the conversation would be quite different than what we hear at present. That these radio personalities, especially the talk shows, seem to have become the “experts”, and promote this toxic information, of which they refer to as freedom of speech, is nothing more than horrific to any society making an effort to be fair and stable.

There is a vast difference when one incites and clamours for the death of those who are different. For all the “horrors” of gay people, and the mistreatment they receive, they, as a group, do not want to annihilate those who do not think the same way as them.

I have on a few occasions made my point very clear on the transmitting of toxic and venomous dialogue on the local radio talk shows.

Free speech must come with some responsibility. I have tried listening to Sherri J, and now even Gina Spence, but have decided to choose freedom of choice and turn off their stations.

It’s depressing to listen to those not discussing, but expressing their hatred and distaste for those whose colour, beliefs or lifestyle offends them so much.

What is worse, if someone does call in to give another opinion, they are either shut down or ridiculed. This is public radio. If there is freedom of speech, all should be allowed to express their view — and shouldn’t the host be neutral? And one last question: if Ayo Kimathi is banned from this Island, why is he still on our local station, still spewing his toxic and racist messages.
