Dear Sir,

The Progressive Labour Party will be voting next month — among themselves — for a change of leadership. Trying to follow the current events regarding who, within the PLP, can vote and who cannot vote is confusing, to say the least. We are hoping those who will vote make the right decision and elect a leader who can work to achieve a healthier climate — be it infrastructure, economy, cost of living, etc, for all of us.

Along with all the upsets and confusion, there are rumblings about a possible General Election coming up — possibly before the end of 2026. This might remind us of the question of absentee ballot voting and when it will be permitted.

During a campaign town hall meeting at Ocean View Golf Course prior to the last General Election, the question was asked when absentee voting would be addressed and passed into law.

The answer — from the PLP candidates there — was that this was going to happen sooner rather than later. Here we are, almost two years later, and nothing has changed. I believe that the last time the matter of electoral reform was raised by the Government was March 2025.

With our college and university students now back in schools overseas, what are the chances of their being able to vote should the election be held while they are overseas?

Further, there are Bermudians overseas on work assignments or extended stays for health reasons who would be looking to vote.

When will we hear more about this long-drawn-out (like this letter!) unanswered matter? Will my grandson at school overseas be able to vote in the next General Election?
