A switch in ministerial responsibilities will not impede the modernisation of how the island conducts elections, MPs heard last week.

The Reverend Emily Gail Dill, the new Minister of the Cabinet Office, told the House of Assembly that she had met with the independent multiparty group reviewing the Government’s electoral reform plans to “personally assure them of my continued commitment to this process”.

The 11-member working group was announced in June, although Dr Dill said that one member had resigned “due to time constraints”.

The details came on Friday in response to questions from Dwayne Robinson, the Shadow Minister of Home and Community Affairs.

Dr Dill confirmed that the legislation would be tabled in September as planned.
