A prisoner who escaped custody while assisting police was recaptured on Saturday after a night on the lam.

Jamiko Bean, 33, had been brought to the Sunny Side Park, Southampton, area by the Criminal Investigation Department on Friday so he could help to identify the locations of crimes he is suspected of committing.

However, he was somehow able to escape at about 1.30pm that afternoon, sparking a police search.

By Saturday morning, the Bermuda Police Service had received several tips from members of the public, some of which suggested he was in the central parishes. At about 3.50pm that afternoon, officers reported spotting Bean on a motorcycle travelling along Middle Road in Southampton.

“The 33-year-old male then jumped off the cycle and began to run and hide in the area of the Southampton Marketplace,” a spokesman said. “He was eventually captured without a struggle at a residence next to Riddell’s Bay.

“He was then taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was processed and detained.”

The police thanked the public for their help tracking down Bean.
