The folly of public sitting idly by

OBA killing our seed: too many of us are waiting for the next election but that will be too late for some, says John H. Holdipp III

Dear Sir,

Often I offer my opinion about the sometimes complexities that the present government forces us to experience.

Implementing policies and enforcing restrictive measures on the people and social leaders of this Island is in itself absurd.

There is absolutely no way we as a people of this Island should be sitting quietly on the side watching this government actively killing our seed.

The folly of this generation is to smell the flesh burning in the gas chambers and, in quiet displeasure, go along and help dig the mass graves by not raising even a hand to stop the misery.

There are too many who believe that as long as we wait for the next round of elections sometime in the future, time will be our friend.

I guess in their eyes, we can afford to waste a few thousand souls not achieving their ambitions and watching a variety of younger offspring being forced to look for greener pastures elsewhere.

After all, certain of their own offspring have attained the level of functioning in a financially strong position.

This mindset leads only to strangling the unity that we should be enjoying as a society. Talk about punishment, even senators birthed from other parts of this world can comfortably insult us by voicing their viewpoint that we are simply sexual accidents that happened on this beautiful piece of land.

Just a thought to you citizens of Bermuda: there is no doubt many of us are waiting to exhale from this tyranny of a government under the One Bermuda Alliance banner.

However, a warning to both the Opposition and the social leaders of the respective union bodies that are actively representing all of us: if you envision a future of potentially critical growth and prosperity for your members and clients, understand this — time can be your friend, but also your enemy.

It may sound off-the-cuff, but sitting idle on the side of the road makes you a partner to this destruction of those who trust your leadership.
