Family doctor and windsurfer dies at 64

Niall Aitken, a family doctor known for his love of the sea, has died at the age of 64.

Dr Aitken passed away suddenly on Sunday.

An avid member of the Bermuda Board Sailing Association for many years, he was a friend of the late veterinarian Neil Burnie, with whom he often competed in windsurfing contests at home and overseas.

A strong believer in ocean conservation who could often be seen in the water off his South Shore home, Dr Aitken was also a nature enthusiast and birdwatcher.

He was a keen advocate for windsurfing and, in his competing days, pushed for the Island to do more to promote the sport among younger residents.
