Shares of Butterfield Bank surged 14.4 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.The bank gained $3.40 to close on $27 on the trading of 2,000 shares.Butterfield’s US-listed shares moved in the opposite direction, sliding $1.33, or 5.12 per cent, to close on $24.64 on the New York Stock Exchange.One Communications Ltd fell ten cents, or 2.5 per cent, to close on $3.90 as 25,000 shares traded.The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 151.54 points, or 8.63 per cent, to close on 1,906.69. For the four-day trading week, shortened for Friday’s Bermuda Day holiday, the index gained 9.32 per cent, driven by the 17.4 per cent gain in Butterfield shares. The BSX Insurance Index fell 1.79 points, or 0.13 per cent, to close on 1,347.78.
