Woman stole make-up from The Phoenix

A social inquiry report was ordered on a woman after she pleaded guilty to the theft of more than $80 worth of make-up.

Janell Thomas, 33, admitted in Magistrates’ Court that she stole five make-up products from Phoenix Stores in Reid Street, Hamilton.

The court heard that Thomas put the stolen items in her handbag and attempted to leave the store without payment.

A security officer stopped her at the door and searched her bag and found $82.30 worth of Maybelline and L’Oreal make-up.

Thomas admitted that she attempted to steal the items and was arrested.

The incident took place on March 11.

Thomas, from Hamilton Parish, told the court: “I’ve learnt my lesson. I won’t do that again.”

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case until October 16.

Thomas also pleaded guilty to four traffic offences.

Ms Anderson heard that she was charged with driving without insurance on January 19 and 16. She was also charged with riding an unlicensed motorcycle and riding without a driving licence on January 16.

Thomas was fined a total of $3,550 and ordered to pay by September 26.

Ms Anderson also ordered Thomas to pay an outstanding $200 fine by today and another fine of $1,500 by September 26.
