A suspect has been arrested after a man was seen on CCTV brandishing a knife on Front Street in Hamilton during an altercation on Saturday.

Police said the man was taken into custody yesterday during a targeted operation in relation to the incident which occurred at about 2.30pm.

During the operation, officers recovered “a large knife” believed to be of evidential significance to the investigation, the police said.

The item will be subject to further examination while the matter remains under investigation.

Chief Inspector Nidol Barker of the Tactical Operations Division said: “The BPS remains committed to addressing incidents involving bladed articles and other weapons and will continue to take appropriate enforcement action to safeguard the community.”
