Club beef up security after thieves strike

North Village Community Club president Shervin Dill yesterday said security would be beefed up in the wake of a break-in at the clubhouse that cost it around $1,400.

Mr Dill said: “We’re very disappointed and upset because we all work hard for the community and incidents like this just make things that much harder for us.”

He added the Pembroke community had also been shocked — and rallied round the club.

Mr Dill was speaking after the clubhouse and bar were broken into in the early hours of last Monday.

Thieves stole alcohol and other goods, including sodas, cups and ice.

But Mr Dill said CCTV had captured images of the raiders, which had been shared on social media in the hope of tracking them down.

He added that the club was reviewing its security arrangements, but declined to discuss details.

Mr Dill said that club activities, including art classes and soccer camps, would be unaffected by the break-in.

He added: “It’s not really going to have a serious impact on us.”

And he asked for anyone with any information on the raid to contact police.

Mr Dill said: “We just don’t understand why we’re being targeted for these break-ins when we work so hard for the community — we would just like it to stop.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 295-0011 or the Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
