An app that allows users to track on-island events is gaining traction.

Ivan Outerbridge started “Bermuda’s Very Own” app four years ago, and admits it was a slow start that progressed successfully over the years.

“I started this project in 2015, and with a humble start,” he said. “Now we are over 3,000 downloads. We also won second place at The Tech Awards 2015 and also best mobile app award, and silver nominee for best lifestyle app,” Mr Outerbridge said.

The app offers a range of services such as event promotions, SMS messaging with event updates and information, banner ads, business directory listings, and a fun photo booth where you can add stickers and frames to your images.

“We have websites, then there is social media, but I really wanted to have something local that all demographics of Bermuda would benefit from,” Mr Outerbridge said.

“That one common thing is ‘going out’. We rely on a lot of apps and programs that are developed for their countries and that instil pride when all are on board and are finding it useful to them. So having an app that all of the events are on in one place is something I have heard for some time.”

With various websites and social media accounts, Mr Outerbridge believes locals have to look at the different media platforms for the latest updates.

“There are at least three popular social media websites and that means that the average person needs to utilise a few different mediums to stay current with events,” he said.

“Now with the BVO app just about all of the most anticipated events are just a few button clicks away.” He believes this is the first app of its kind in Bermuda.

Mr Outerbridge makes a profit from the app to maintain the service provided.

“It is a mobile advertising platform. So we charge for listings, SMS, banners, etc. We are the bridge between social media and traditional advertising.”
