One of the side-effects of the Covid-19 crisis is the potential for swimming pools to turn into health hazards. With non-essential retail outlets closed to walk-in customers, pool owners’ ability to buy pool-cleaning materials is limited.Island Trading has sought to address the problem by offering kerbside collection or delivery for pool chemicals and equipment.Laura Farge-Lowe, owner of Island Trading, said pool sanitisation was important.“Without the correct treatment pools can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and create other health problems,” she said. “We all know what can happen after a hurricane and if your pool does go green then it can be very hard to get it back to normal again.”Kerbside collection of purchased chemicals and equipment is available from 8.30am to 12pm, Monday to Saturday, for customers who call to pay by credit card before picking up.Sam Desilva, a 40-year pool maintenance veteran and pool manager at Island Trading said: “As children and families across the island are being asked to practise social distancing and stay at home, you know at some point kids are going to end up in the pool. It is therefore of critical importance for pools to continue to be sanitised.” • For more information call 292-0400, e-mail info@islandtrading.bm or connect with Island Trading on Facebook or Instagram
