Girlcott by Florenz Maxwell.
Theatre boycott heroine and author Florenz Maxwell is hosting a book launch for her newly released Girlcott this month.
Ms Maxwell, who was one of the members of the Progressive Group that was instrumental organising the boycott and paving the way for the end of segregation, will host the event at the Bermuda National Library on Tuesday, June 27, from 6pm.
Girlcott, published by Blue Banyan Books in Jamaica, is a coming-of-age story about a young girl who learns about segregation and racism through Bermuda’s theatre boycott.
Having scored highly in her exams, her parents wanted to treat her and her classmates to a trip to the theatre. However, due to the boycott the trip had to be cancelled and the young girl’s journey fighting discrimination began.
The book is available from Brown & Co for $17.99.
