Man, 83, suffers inhalation in fire

An 83-year-old man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after a fire in a Devonshire home.Firefighters were called to a reported kitchen fire at a two-storey building on Kilderry Close on Saturday at about 1.15pm.Thick smoke was coming from the lower-level studio apartment when they arrived at the scene.A spokesman for the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises to extinguish the fire using a dry chemical powder extinguisher.“The tenant of the apartment suffered from smoke inhalation and has been transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.”Four appliances and seven firefighters attended the call.The cause of the fire was unknown. An investigation is under way.
