Edness gives ironman a try

Trying his hand: Edness

Sergio Edness finished 104th in the 30-to-34 age division in the Ironman 70.3 Florida at the weekend.

Edness, who was the 712th fastest male and 900th overall, finished the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run in a time of 6hr 8min 10sec.

The 31-year-old, who helped Bermuda win the bronze medal in the golf team event at the 2007 NatWest Island Games in Rhodes, finished the swim in 44:01, the bike in 2:55:50 and the run in 2:21:16.

The Ironman 70.3 Florida was held at the Lake Eva Park in Haines City, where 1,716 athletes competed.

Xavier Santana, of Puerto Rico, was the overall winner of the race, finishing in 4:11:34.
