A shoulder injury suffered in a bike crash the day before forced triathlete Erica Hawley to withdraw from yesterday’s European Junior Elite Triathlon Championships in Kitzbühel, Austria.

The Bermudian was due to line up in a competitive field, however she had a spill on her bike the previous day and was forced to withdraw from the event. Her shoulder took the brunt of the fall and when she tested it in a swim yesterday morning she realised it was too sore for competition.

A precautionary X-ray is planned, with Hawley hoping to be ready for the next European Cup junior elite race in Holten, the Netherlands, on June 30.

Hawley, who recently completed her freshman year at the University of Colorado, has been training in Banyoles, Spain with her coach and fellow club triathletes.
