Ilkeston trio can’t wait to work with Goater

Tyrell said that Goater’s arrival has already created a buzz at Ilkeston

IIkeston trio Tehvan Tyrell, David Jones and Paul Douglas believe that Shaun Goater is the right man to turn the club’s flagging fortunes around.

Tyrell, Jones and Douglas expressed optimism over the club’s future under Goater’s stewardship upon arrival in Costa Rica as members of Bermuda’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship squad.

“I was pretty excited when I heard the news,” Douglas said. “I really want IIkeston to do well so hopefully with him coming into the team we can make some changes and things can happen.

“He is an experienced player and hopefully he can bring that experience to our club and get us some wins because since the start of the season we haven’t been doing so well. Hopefully we start getting some wins to get us out of relegation.

“This will be the first time that Shaun Goater will be my coach and I am really looking forward to the opportunity.”

Tyrell said that Goater’s arrival has already created a buzz.

“I think with him coming in has changed the outlook of the club already,” Tyrell said. “I can see the fans are upbeat about him coming in so it can only get better.

“I am very excited to work under Goater being he is a striker who started from the bottom and worked his way up.

“That’s my goal and just to play under and learn from a Bermudian legend is a great opportunity I am looking forward to. I’m looking forward to meeting him as a person and learn from him.

“He is a world-class striker and a legend at Manchester City, currently one of the biggest clubs in England. He is known all throughout England and I want my name to ring like his.

“That’s my goal and that’s why I train hard to be like strikers like Shaun Goater, Nahki Wells and Kyle Lightbourne.”

Echoing his team-mate’s sentiments, Jones added: “I think it’s a good thing for the club to have Shaun Goater involved and I am very excited.

“Myself being a striker, hopefully I can learn a few things from him being a world class striker back in his day. If I can learn a few pointers from him that would be good.”
