Jordan Hugill is backing Nahki Wells to break the 20-goal barrier this season and believes the pair can form a classic “big man, little man” strike partnership.Hugill and Wells netted in Queens Park Rangers’ 4-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday and have scored 13 goals between them already this season.Although Mark Warburton, the QPR manager, has often opted to play one up front this term, alternating between the pair of loanees, he has also used them in tandem to good effect.It was Wells who started against Blackburn, opening the scoring on the half-hour mark for his seventh of the campaign, before Hugill was introduced midway through the second half, netting his side’s fourth with a towering header in the 77th minute.“Hopefully, Nahki can go and score 20 goals this season,” Hugill said, “and hopefully I can go and do the same! People say strikers are selfish, but we want to see each other do well. “The chances are always going to come when the team does well. If the chances are there, we are going to take them.”Hugill, on loan from Premier League side West Ham United, says the pair have already struck up a good understanding and complement each other well.“I really enjoy playing with him,” the 27-year-old said. “He sees some of the runs I don’t see and vice versa. “It’s brilliant for the club to have two different sorts of strikers, so whichever option is picked you get different types of players.”Warburton, who replaced Steve McClaren as QPR manager at the end of last season, was effusive in his praise for Hugill and Wells after their eye-catching performances.“[Nahki] is playing with a lot of confidence and Jordan scored a tremendous header,” Warburton said.“As a team, we’re creating chances for those boys and they’re taking them. “We had four different goal scorers and they were different types of goals. “I’m delighted the two goal scorers [Hugill and Wells] have kept on scoring. All over the park we looked good and sharp, and moved the ball well.”Warburton said it was important for his side to head into the international break with a win after suffering back-to-back defeats against West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City. “We were too respectful against West Brom,” Warburton said. “We didn’t show our supporters and the [television] cameras how good we can be. “But there were a lot of positives from Wednesday night [against Cardiff] as absurd as that may sound, losing 3-0.“I told the players to go and show what they can do [against Blackburn]. We deserved the victory.”n Wells’s impressive form has earned him a nomination for the PFA Championship player of the month award for September.Midway through the month, Wells netted a first-half brace in QPR’s 3-2 victory over Luton Town at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and a week later bagged another double, this time in his side’s 2-1 success away to Millwall.Wells has been nominated for the award alongside Barry Bannan, Tom Cairney, Jordy de Wijs, Chey Dunkley and Steven Fletcher.Fans have until 8am tomorrow to submit their vote via the football fancast website.
