As we countdown to the 35th America’s Cup The Royal Gazette will bring you one fun fact a day about the boats, the sailors, the crew, or the history of this illustrious competition. There are now 21 days until the month-long sporting spectacle gets under way.

The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup will bring the best national youth teams to Bermuda for racing in June. Twelve teams will take part in this unique series: six youth crews will compete in Bermuda through their affiliation with current America’s Cup teams and six more teams have been selected by Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Sport Directors, Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher. The competition will be fierce: more than 20 top youth sailing teams applied for an entry and the teams taking part represent the best young sailing talent worldwide.

The teams will race in a qualifying series of fleet races, starting on June 12, to determine the top eight who will face off in two days of racing with the final finishing on June 21.

Alongside Bermuda’s own Team BDA, the other teams who will compete are: Candidate Sailing Team; Youth Viking Denmark; Team France Jeune; Next Generation - Team Germany; Land Rover BAR Academy, Great Britain; Kaijin Team Japan; NZL Sailing Team, New Zealand; Spanish Impulse Team; Artemis Youth Racing, Sweden; Team Tilt, Switzerland; Next Generation USA.

The teams will use the same one-design AC45 foiling catamarans that the America’s Cup teams competed with in the Louis Vuitton World Series.
