A Bermuda Under-20 footballer has been charged with the fatal stabbing of Raymond Butterfield.

Mikiel Thomas, 19, from Pembroke, was charged in Magistrates’ Court this afternoon with the unlawful killing of Mr Butterfield on Sunday.

Mr Thomas was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard by the Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Mr Thomas on $50,000 bail with a like surety and several conditions, including that he surrender travel documents, abide by a curfew and report regularly to Hamilton Police Station.

He is expected to appear before the Supreme Court next month.

Mr Thomas, who plays as a defender for Premier Division side Devonshire Cougars, was part of the squad that competed in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in San José, Costa Rica, last month.
