Ian Coke, the Boulevard striker, struck at the death to deny Somerset Trojans a victory at Police Field yesterday.

Takeyhi Walker gave Boulevard the lead in the twelfth minute, turning on a dime and firing into the roof of the net.

Then, Coke had a chance to double his side’s lead, but his point-blank shot was saved by Trojans goalkeeper Shaquille Bean. Trojans equalised with a stylish goal of their own.

Zahkie Iris struck a magnificent volley that flew into the net, leaving the Boulevard goalkeeper, Deaz Chambers, with no chance. It was Iris’s first league goal of the season.

Both teams had chances to score the go-ahead goal. Trevin Ming, the Trojans defender, had a header tipped over by Chambers. And then Niko Smith, the Boulevard midfielder, had a close range shot saved by Bean.

The second half was filled with chances for both sides, but neither of them was able to take them. That is until two quick-fire goals in the last five minutes changed all of that.

In the first half, the spectators witnessed two exquisite goals courtesy of Walker and Iris.

The goals in the second half were far less remarkable, but no less important. The first of these two late goals was scored by Trojans.

After substitute Jonathan Bean went down in the box, the referee consulted with her assistant, and then awarded a penalty to Trojans. Tahj Wade stepped up and put the spot kick away to give his side the lead in the 85th minute.

Wade’s penalty looked like it could have been a winner for the Trojans, but that was not to be the case. In the 85th minute, it was Boulevard’s turn to come from behind.

This time it was Coke who nicked in to score after a mix-up in the Trojans defence.

At the final whistle, Chambers was given a second yellow for arguing with the referee.
