Son arrested after mothe calls police

-- and ended up watching in Magistrates' Court yesterday as her son pleaded guilty to posession of marijuana.

The mother of a 17-year-old Daymon O. Simmons, of Hill View Lane, Warwick, called the Police on March 12, Police prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told Senior Magistrate Will Francis yesterday.

When inside the house, Simmons' mother showed the officers a shoe box that belonged to her son.

"Inside the box were 14 envelopes each containing plant material which was 8.40 grams,'' said Insp. Duffy. He said the son was not at home when the search took place.

Simmons, who was already on probation for a previous drug conviction later went to the Hamilton Police Station with his probation officer, where he was told he would be arrested for possession of cannabis.

"After being questioned, Simmons admitted to having the cannabis which he intended to supply,'' Insp. Duffy said. "He also told the officers that six of the envelopes had already been sold and $400 would be given to the supplier and he would receive $100.'' Insp. Duffy added that the street value of the cannabis that remained in the shoe box was $350.

He also said that Simmons had one previous conviction for a drug related matter for which he was put on two years probation.

Mr. Francis ordered a social inquiry report which will be read before sentencing on July 15.
