Bus driver admits stealing cash from bus
A bus operator this morning admitted stealing money from the vehicle’s vault over a period of months.
Pedro Goddard, 42, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to both stealing property from the Bermuda Government and having an object, specifically a metal bar, for the purposes of burglary.
The court heard that on November 16, management at the Public Transportation Board received information that Goddard was seen on CCTV removing money from the vault while driving the vehicle in Dockyard on November 13.
Goddard was subsequently summoned to PTB headquarters, where he was questioned about the footage. He admitted taking the money, and later confessed that he had been taking cash from the bus vaults for around three months.
Prosecutor Maria Sofianos noted that Goddard had no previous convictions and was gainfully employed at the time of the offence, suggesting that the court should consider ordering a Social Inquiry Report.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Goddard on $3,000 bail, ordering that the report be conducted and that the defendant return to the courts on January 20 to be sentenced.
