Butterfield shares gain 3.4%

Butterfield boost: The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed on the back of a $1 increase in the bank's shares

Shares of Butterfield Bank today rose $1 to $30 in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The move, equivalent to 3.4 per cent, came after 349 shares traded.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank’s price was up 84 cents or 2.76 per cent at $31.27.

Utilities firm Ascendant remained at $6.75 after 18,300 shares sold.

And insurance company BF&M was unchanged at $20 after 6,600 shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index close up 44.98 points, or 2.48 per cent, at 1,855.68.

The BSX Insurance Index ended the day up 0.37 points, or 0.02 per cent, at 1,747.60.

The Bermuda Stock Exchange yesterday announced that shipping firm Polaris Holding Company Ltd declared a dividend of 6 cents per share earlier this week. Due to a typographical error at the BSX, the dividend was previously incorrectly reported as 3 cents per share.
