A chance to learn some TRICKERY
A workshop offering the opportunity of becoming a great magician is to take place in Bermuda for people of all ages.
The Specialised Youth Arts Charity in association with Bermuda Magic is offering the Magic Workshop.
O'Brian Roberts explained that the workshop, which takes place from October 27 to October 31, will feature Las Vegas master magician, juggler and comedian Will Roya.
Mr. Roberts said that everyone from the age of eight up was welcome to attend the workshop, which will take place at the Bermuda Youth Library.
"There will be training and instruction in the following disciplines such as magic, juggling, Diablo and balloon sculpturing," he explained.
"There will also be an instructional DVD on areas covered and a certificate of participation."
Of Mr. Roya, he said, thousands of audiences of all ages and backgrounds have enjoyed his particular kind of magic, juggling and comedy.
"His variety of skill, versatility and unique comic delivery continues to enthral audiences around the world with his antics and artistry," he said.
"His career was launched in high school when he presented a magic show for a fine arts class. The show was such a hit, that he decided to pursue entertainment professionally. While studying at the University of Vermont, he expanded his clientele to all parts of Vermont. During this time, he also developed his other skills such as juggling, balloon sculpting and unicycling.
"After his graduation in 1999, he decided to move to Las Vegas with no job or connections. He then worked in a magic shop for six months to pay bills, he got a break and headlined for Princess Cruises for over a year. Having honed his act on the ships, but wanting to limit his travel, he started producing shows that he could perform in, and became the youngest producer and headliner in Las Vegas."
Since then he starred in "Spotlight," in the Dominican Republic, then he had a five-month contract as the Ultimate One-Man Variety Show at the Six Flags Amusement Park. Aside from performance he produced an instructional DVD for budding performers.
"His motto is 'if you don't take a chance, then you won't have a chance!'"
Mr. Roberts added that the aim of the workshop is to teach the fundamentals of the aforementioned disciplines in a learning environment.
"A certain amount of practice will be required to gain confidence in the techniques that will be learned from the sessions," he said.
"The skills acquired from this workshop will be dependent upon the participants individual skills and learning ability therefore we cannot make any guarantee that the person will master all skills."
With people in mind, who may be disruptive, Mr. Roberts said: "We strive to make the sessions fun for all participants therefore they must come to class ready to work listen, learn and be respectful at all times to fellow participants and the instructor Will Roya.
"Bermuda Magic and or Mr. Roya reserves the right to ask any person to leave the workshop if that person is found to be disruptive, physical or verbal, in a manner that is disruptive to the productivity of the workshop.
"The parent or guardian will be contacted immediately to pick up the participant and there will be no refunds given for any unused session time."
