A ship carrying a huge cargo of specially built pontoons for the Caroline Bay marina has arrived in Bermuda.

The Stadiongracht, which originated in Finland, dropped anchor in the Great Sound on Friday.

A total of 36 pontoons, which range in length between 40ft and 65ft and weigh 60 tons each, have been unloaded from the vessel and assembled on the water.

The structure will form the backbone of the marina and will be cemented into place in the coming weeks.

“We are delighted to have had significant booking interest and look forward to receiving our guests next year,” Craig Christensen, CEO of Morgan’s Point Limited, said.

“Co-ordination of all venues will be needed to give our guests an experience of a lifetime that will benefit Bermuda for many years to come.

“We are very excited to have the large face-dock being delivered. All the requisite pieces are now on island to commence the building of the Caroline Bay Superyacht Marina.

“The construction will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2017. This allows sufficient time to have the marina operational early in anticipation of the 2017 America’s Cup.”

Caroline Bay Marina will hold up to 83 berths and an additional 33 berths for superyachts.

“This delivery really signifies that Caroline Bay is moving in the right direction and is doing its part to get Bermuda back into the superyacht and luxury marina business.” CEO of Caroline Bay Marina, Ralph Richardson, said.

The breakwater is due to be assembled and in place by December 12.

Construction crews will set the piles, which are anchored into the water, by driving the pile through the centre of the breakwater.

This will create a protected boundary to allow the team to continue strengthening the sea wall.

Finally, the fingers will be installed to create the individual berths.
