Chris Maxwell, Kemo Simons and Michael Burgess were the top three overall finishers in the 80cc class. But the shock winner in the first moto was Jamel Hassell with his first-ever moto win and the first for Yahama riders in over three years.
Another first-time moto winner was Evan Lambert in the 125 C class, also on a Yahama. Lambert was second overall behind Devin Moss.
Leroy Maxwell was third.
Donnie Moss was the lone 250 C competitor while Robert Smith was the 250 B winner with two wins over Duprey Joell with Edison Jones third.
After a fine day for the Boxing Day Classic the Pepsi Nationals resumed the following day in rainy conditions. Kemo Simons on the Wilson's Honda fired the first shot in his quest for a second 80cc title with a first moto win.
Points leader Chris Maxwell finished fourth but bounced back to win the second and third races. Simons' second overall was due to a third in the second moto after he and Maxwell collided while challenging for the lead.
Jamel Hassell benefitted with a second place and two thirds for third overall.
Devin Moss was once again the 125 C champion with an improving Leroy Maxwell second, Evan Lambert third and Michael Burgess, riding his Christmas present -- a 125 Kawasaki, fourth after also riding in the 80cc class.
Donnie Moss took an extra 45 points as the lone 250 C rider while Duprey Joell was by himself in the 250 B class. Robert Smith sat out with some bruising and Edison Jones was unavailable because of work commitments.
Aaron Pace scored the third hat-trick of the day by beating Justin Belboda, Cory Smith and Gary Simons in the 125 B class.
GOLF GLF Steven Carruthers beat Robert Spurling four-and-two in the championship final of the Bermuda Junior Golf Association's Match Play Championships at Riddell's Bay.
Carruthers, 17, led 13-year-old Spurling one-up after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole final, 74 strokes to 77.
Richard Fulton won the first flight final when he stopped Hywel Brown five-and-three over 18 holes while Grant Smith beat Ian Smith two-up in the second flight final.
Sarah Lindo beat Chris Smith five-and-four in the `red tees' final.
Somerset Bridge Recreation Club will hold a benefit golf tournament to aid Joseph (Red) Mears at Ocean View Golf Club on Sunday. There is a 7.30 a.m. tee off.
RUGBY RUG Sunday will see the playing of Bermuda Rugby Football Union's first 10-A-Side rugby tournament at Nationals starting at 1 p.m.
Six teams will be involved in the competition that has them playing in a round-robin format. Matches will contain two 10-minute halves and regular rules apply.
