Ascendant shares rise 7.4%

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index closed up 40.35 points at 1,635.93 on Thursday

Utilities firm Ascendant Group rose 48 cents to $6.98 on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index yesterday.

The increase, equal to 7.4 per cent, came after 79,700 shares traded.

Bank of Butterfield dropped $1, or 3.8 per cent, to $25 after 1,100 shares changed hands.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank went up 42 cents, or 1.56 per cent, to $27.37. Also yesterday, the bank announced it is to redeem all of its 8 per cent government guaranteed preference shares next month.

Insurance firm BF&M was unchanged at $19.90 after 4,000 shares moved. Fellow insurer Argus was also unchanged at $4.60 after 4,000 shares sold.

The Royal Gazette/BSX closed down 40.35 points, or 2.41 per cent, at 1,635.93.

The BSX Insurance Index ended the day up 12.54 points, or 0.75 per cent, at 1692.32.

The Bermuda Stock Exchange was closed today for the Remembrance Day public holiday.

On the NYSE today, Butterfield Bank shares surged a further $1.36, or 4.97 per cent, to close at $28.73.
