Grateful vendors give back to Summerhaven
Two grateful vendors showed their thanks to the Summerhaven assisted-living facility by giving back after a successful summer catering to visitors at the nearby John Smith’s Bay.
Harrington Harvey III and Kuba Jacobs are both from the Smith’s community that Summerhaven shares with one of the island’s top beaches.
Together they run GNG Entertainment — which, with Summerhaven’s permission, has run a kiosk of useful items for beachgoers off the facility’s property.
“It went well,” said founder Kuba Jacobs. “We’re from this community; I also have a lot of friends staying at Summerhaven, so it was a nice way to interact with them as well as the tourist community.”
Mr Harvey, assistant manager, said the duo had collected donations for Summerhaven while letting tenants enjoy their merchandise on the house: drinks, snacks, towels, souvenirs, maps and schedules.
“We feel we have what it takes for a spot like John Smith’s Bay,” he added. “It’s time we had some young entrepreneurs with ideas going for it.
“We’re just grateful to Summerhaven.” The business plans to expand for the next season, he said.
The two presented their collection jar to John Powell, chairman of Summerhaven, along with a plaque expressing their appreciation.
