Tropical Storm Fiona no threat ‘at this time’

Tropical Storm Fiona — formerly Tropical Depression Six — is not a threat to Bermuda “at this time”, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.

At 6pm yesterday, the weather system was about 1,798 nautical miles east-southeast of Bermuda.

Its closest point of approach within three days is forecast to be 1,146 nautical miles to the east-southeast at 6pm on Saturday.

The tropical storm is moving west-northwest at 16mph with maximum sustained winds of 40mph with higher gusts.

Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Centre.
