On May 20, 2006, were married in England. The non-religious ceremony, scripted by the couple, was held in the ancient woodland of Bradfield Woods, Suffolk, and was attended by friends and family.
Despite the rain (not ideal for an outdoor ceremony!), the wedding was a memorable and joyous occasion. This was followed by a vegetarian buffet at the Bull Hotel in Long Melford, with celebrations continuing long into the night. The couple then spent a month touring Mauritius and Madagascar for their honeymoon; scuba-diving, bird-watching and trekking.
On the June 21, 2006, Andr? officially passed his Viva at the University of East Anglia, Norfolk. This was the culmination of a three-year Ph.D. entitled ?The breeding ecology of Twite and the effects of upland agricultural intensification?.
The Twite, in England, is a red-listed endangered finch species that breeds in the moor lands of the South Pennines. The Ph.D. specifically attempted to ascertain why this species has experienced such a catastrophic decline over the last 20 years and examined breeding and feeding ecology in this context.
It involved a range of fieldwork including catching and colour-ringing birds for migration and natal philopatry studies, assessing both diet and nesting requirements, accumulating evidence of historical decline, assessing historical habitat change and radio-tracking individuals during the breeding season.
Dr. Raine is currently assisting with an ornithological project investigating the prevalence of avian malaria in the Seychelles and Mrs. Raine is working as a conservation officer with English Nature in Suffolk.
