Charities benefit from awards ceremony
Conyers Dill & Pearman hosted an awards ceremony this week on behalf of several charitable trusts managed by Codan Trust Company Limited in which over $150,000 was donated to local charities.
The Bermuda Diabetes Association, The Bermuda Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Bermuda Red Cross, The Bermuda TB and Cancer Association, The Committee of 25 for Handicapped Children, Meals on Wheels and the The Sunshine League were among the charities to receive funds.
CD & P partner Peter Pearman and Codan Trust Company Limited trust manager Sangita Bhalla presented the donations.
?We are very happy to present these donations to some very worthy institutions,? Mr. Pearman said.
Of the many grateful beneficiaries present Mrs. Doreen Blee, of the Bermuda Heart and Stroke Foundation, said: ?We are very thankful for such generosity.?
?We have a number of projects that we are looking to move forward from the planning table into reality and this donation will really help to drive those projects forward.?
A charitable trust is often formed for reasons other than the strict acquisition of wealth. When the goals of these trusts are reached, they are dissolved and any money left over in the trust may be donated to charitable institutions.
In this instance the funds from the trusts were divided according to specific instructions laid down when the trusts were initiated, or where no such instructions existed according to the charitable practices of Conyers Dill & Pearman.
