Trip to Manchester confirms City are buzzing
Although 'the Goat' hasn't been out of the game that long I thought it would be worth taking a bit of a refresher course when I visited England last week.
While I was back in the home of the Premier League I visited both of my old clubs Manchester City and Reading and managed to see a couple of their training sessions.
It's always tough for an ex-player to watch your old team-mates still training and I must admit I wished I was still able to pull on my boots and get myself out there.
Sadly, although the mind still knows what to do the old legs probably wouldn't!
Mark Hughes, City's new boss, and my former manager at Reading Steve Coppell were extremely welcoming and it was great to have a chat with both these top football figures.
I particularly enjoyed going back to City which everyone knows have a special place in my heart and it was great to catch up with my old buddy Shaun Wright-Phillips who has just re-signed for the club.
I think he'll be a super signing and was delighted for him when he struck two goals on his return.
To say I'm excited about Manchester City's chances of glory this season is an understatement, especially now we have our prospective new owners the Abu Dhabi United Group onboard.
They showed the rest of the league that they meant business by smashing the British transfer record to complete the £32.5m signing of Robinho from Real Madrid from under Chelsea's noses.
I also liked our effort to snatch Berbatov from our cross-city rivals at the last minute!
I believe we've spent in the region of £60m during the summer in signing Robinho, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Jo and also brought in the likes of Tal Ben-Haim, Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta.
City have been starved of real success for so long but now that looks like changing thanks to the massive investment of the Abu Dhabi United Group. Now we can really contemplate a Champions League finish.
Sure, expectancy levels will duly rise but to be fair expectancy levels were pretty high when I was there as a player and that's just something you have to live with.
While I was there I also had a chat to some of the guys at their academy as it's always useful to make new contacts.
I've only just returned to the Island and I was disappointed to find out that Bermuda had not progressed past the first stage of the Digicel Cup.
I was really hoping we could use our victory over Trinidad as a springboard for bigger and better things.
Although the Hogges season only finished a few weeks ago this is the first week myself, Kyle Lightbourne and Paul Scope have been on the Island at the same time so we'll all be getting together soon for a review of the Hogges' second season as well as discussing where we go for the future. I'll keep you updated with any news.
Finally, I'd just like to say ... we've got Robinho!
