Coaches in top flight are best for some time

Congratulations to Andrew Bascome's Boulevard Blazers who were the deserved winners of the FA Cup final after beating Dandy Town Hornets at the weekend.

The Blazers players seemed to relish the big occasion and probably took Hornets by surprise, starting the match at such a high tempo with Scott Morton's side were never really able to recover.

Some players tend to freeze in the important games but Boulevard's boys seemed to embrace the occasion at the National Sports Centre and it was a really enjoyable final with a great atmosphere.

It's been a great first season back at Blazers for Andrew and it's good to have him coaching in Bermuda's top-flight again.

I've always judged coaches by what they win and this year all the credit has to go to Devarr Boyes for winning the league with Devonshire Cougars, Andrew for picking up the FA Cup, Kyle for taking home the Friendship Shield with PHC and Scott whose Dandy Town lifted the Dudley Eve.

I really believe there will be the best quality of coaches in the Premier Division next season than for a very long time.

For a start they will be Dennis Brown (Somerset Trojans) and Kenny Thompson (Somerset Eagles) joining the top-flight after their teams won promotion from the First Division.

Add those two coaches to likes of Andrew, Scott, Kyle and myself and you have some of the most respected figures in Bermuda football all pitting their wits against each other week-in week-out.

The only downside is that Devarr will be missing as he has taken Bermuda Football Association's youth director's position.

Throw into the mix that at least five of these six were arguably the top players their clubs have ever had and you have a really talented bunch of guys involved in improving the standard of the local game.

The ultimate goal will be winning the Premier Division title and it should be a compelling season to watch pan-out.

Although North Village didn't manage to win any silverware this season at least the Rams lifted the Commercial Knock Out Cup with our victory over Key West Rangers.

Believe it or not but I'm actually one of the youngest players and our coach said he need some young legs and thankfully 'The Goat' got fed with a couple of goals!

We actually played some good stuff for a bunch of old guys and it was nice to end the season with a medal.

I'll probably register myself again as a player for North Village in the Premier Division next season just in case as it's not getting any easier to play these days.

Now the domestic season is over my focus is now on Bermuda Hogges with our season set to start on April 24 away at Crystal Palace Baltimore.

Head coach Kyle Lightbourne, and his new assitant Jack Castle, have had the players training for a couple of weeks now and we should be announcing our squad shortly.
