A hairdresser from Bermuda competing in a United States television show says it has been the “best experience in my life, working with the most creative people in the world”.

Tanju Kurt, owner of TK Hair Group, put together the team taking part in Global Beauty Masters, a reality competition showcasing artists in hair, make-up, nails and styling, which is airing on the TLC and Discovery Life channels.

The show was filmed last autumn in Las Vegas, when Mr Kurt was joined by make-up and airbrush artist Aviram Gdalyau (aka Avi Ram), who is based in the US, and nail expert Paloma Pernica, part of the TK Hair Group in Bermuda.

Mr Kurt told The Royal Gazette he had to stay tight-lipped on the outcome of the contest as it won’t be revealed until the season finale but he added: “To me, they are all winners. Just to be there, they are the winners. You have the best in the world in one place.

“It was the best experience I have had. I just can’t explain the people you have around you — a lot of creativity.” The show, which is in its second season, features ten US and seven international teams, representing Bermuda, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Senegal, and South Africa.

The professional teams of beauty experts compete in challenges each week and are judged by a team of celebrities, before a final battle in front of a live audience. A press release from the show’s creators describes it as the only competition and reality show celebrating hair, make-up, nail and styling professionals “from the mainstream to the extreme”.

Global Beauty Masters offers viewers an insider’s perspective on the creative process during Battle Week, where beauty pros work together in teams. Enduring a week of rigorous competition, they must improvise, innovate and impress to reach the ultimate showdown . . . The series captures the artistry, passion and compelling characters, both in front and behind the camera.”

Mr Kurt said he applied to appear on the show and was selected. “You are on camera all the time and I love it. People can see you working. The people [involved] are amazing.”

The show airs on TLC on Mondays at noon (11am EST/10am CST) and on Discovery Life on Thursdays at 7pm (6pm EST/5pm CST) and Tuesdays at noon (11am EST/10am CST).
