Contracts announced

Works Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons said Universal Construction Company has been awarded the contract to build the foundation for the south zone of the new school, with a bid of under $280,000.

And Sea-Land Construction Ltd. had won the contract for the structural steel and metal decking, Mr. Gibbons said. The price of that contract is $865,000.

Mr. Gibbons earlier announced that Island Construction & Landscaping Services was awarded the site preparation contract, worth close to $500,000. The company has been on site for several weeks.

More contracts in the series will be awarded about every two weeks, Mr.

Gibbons said.

In a departure from normal Works & Engineering practice, the school is being built with a project manager. Somers Construction Ltd. was hired to manage the job and award a number of small job packages after competitive bidding.

The school, the centrepiece of Government's education restructuring plan, is to open in September, 1997.
