the Old Town and oversee some major development projects now in the pipeline.

The town manager will assist corporation secretary Mrs. Lily Oatley, whose time is taken up with the financial side of running the town, and other staff on a full time basis.

He will manage the town's affairs and be responsible for public relations and promotional activities to encourage visits from both locals and tourists, St.

George's Mayor the Wor. Henry Hayward said.

One of the manager's first projects will be to oversee an overall town plan, currently in the works. The plan would give the town a major facelift, incorporating lighting, street and landscaping proposals.

The manager will also look at ways of increasing revenue for the town, including "broadening its tax structure''.

There is also work to be done on preparing Ordnance Island for the St.

George's cruise ship next season.

Mr. Hayward said it was felt a manager was needed if the town was going to grow and attract visitors.

The Corporation was still not satisfied with the amount of visitors coming to the East End, he said.

He noted Dockyard was not even a town and had several executives responsible for running it.
