Week.

Two more boat classes joined in yesterday -- JY 15s and Snipes -- but the day belonged to the Lasers, Etchells and IODs, who took advantage of the steady 10-knot breezes to produce several fine results.

Former world champion Bill Widnall showed his mettle in the International One Design fleet with first and fourth place finishes to take the lead from Jim Bishop by just three quarters of a point. Bishop picked up his second win in the fourth race of the competition but a seventh in race three left him trailing.

Just one race was sailed in Etchells but it was a good one for Bermuda's Andreas Lewin, who led the way around the Great Sound course for a comfortable win to take over the overall lead from Briton Graham Bailey.

It was also a better day for Bermuda's Paula Lewin and Tim Patton who each rebounded from a rough first day on Sunday.

On the dinghy course, Malcolm Smith barely held his lead in the Laser fleet with a first and a third. Brett Wright had a first and second, leaving Smith just a quarter of a point ahead going into Day Three. James Macdonald holds down third, giving Bermudians a sweep of the medals if the positions hold.

Wright's wife Sara, who was last in the first race, has slowly climbed into a tie for seventh.

American Pedro Lorson and Belgian Jean-Martin Grisare are tied for the Snipes lead after two opening-day races. Each won a race.

In the JY 15 fleet, American's John Niewhouse won one race, Jim Ryan the other.

Two Canadians lead the J24 fleet, with Thomas Hakansson in first followed by Michael Montford just three quarters of a point back. Young Bermudian Jon Corless is third.

All six classes are in action today, when winds are expected to increase to near 15 knots. The Tornado class enters the competition on Thursday.
