of Cultural Affairs Minister Yvette Swan disclosed this week.

Sen. Swan said the library was first inviting people who have borrowed the 2,000 books currently out to return them.

The library will then re-open. That should all take place towards the middle of October.

The library was closed on February 14 after asbestos was found in the ceilings. It was expected to re-open in May.

In June head librarian Grace Rawlins said she had "no idea'' what was causing the delay.

Library Committee chairperson Louise Jackson said the library, which was being completely redecorated, would be "worth the wait'' and that "the library was being given far more than we ever dreamed''.

FERRY PASSENGERS DROP TRA Ferry passengers drop A drop in visitors to the Island and industrial action by blue collar workers was blamed for a drop in ferry figures for July.

Overall numbers were down by 19.5 percent for July 1997.

The Paget/Warwick ferry dropped the most. In July, 1996 32,564 passengers compared to 25,603, a drop of 21 percent.

The Somerset ferry dropped by 8,873 passengers or 18 percent, while the new summer East/West ferry had 3,607 passengers.

POLICE WARNING POL Police warning Police have warned Warwick residents about a man knocking on doors, asking for money.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett told residents of the Khyber Heights/Jones Village, Warwick area that a man was going around begging.

Police were called to the area at 8 p.m. on Monday, but failed to locate the man. He was also sighted in the area of Khyber Pass and Middle Road.

The man is described as slim, brown skinned and clean-shaven with a close haircut.

PEDESTRIAN HURT AC Pedestrian hurt Standing in the road, trying to flag down a taxi, landed a 41-year-old Pembroke man in hospital this weekend.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the man suffered a broken leg and cuts following the accident at 2 a.m. Saturday.

While attempting to flag down a taxi, the man accidentally stepped backwards into the path of a westbound Subaru.
