Zebras make Town pay for missed chances
Dandy Town 1 PHC 3PHC condemned defending champions Dandy Town to a surprise defeat in the Digicel Premier Division at St John’s Field yesterday.Hornets squandered several first half chances with former Zebras striker Aquino Grant overrunning a one-on-one opportunity before hitting the side-netting from a tight angle. The hosts were made to pay for their prolificacy in front of goal when in the 38th minute youngster Ayshaun Smith twisted and turned inside the box before siding the ball home.Smith almost doubled his side’s lead when he capitalised on a poor clearance by defender Kwonde Lathan, sending a volley just over the bar from the edge of the area.Zebras extended their advantage midway through the second half when substitute Thomas Brown unleashed an unstoppable strike from distance that curled into the top corner.Further chances went begging for Town with Grant again missing the target after being teed up by Angelo Simmons, who should have also done better with glancing header from Grant’s cross. With Hornets looking strangely bereft of confidence and energy, PHC added a third when Shakir Smith tapped home after good work down the right hand side by his namesake Ayshaun.Hornets scored a consolation goal in the final stages when Simmons found substitute Temiko Wilson at the back post with the former Boulevard striker bundling the ball in.PHC skipper Cecoy Robinson now hopes his side can build on their “confidence boosting” victory, having made a slow start to the season.“To go to Town and win is a great result for us,” he said. “I think we have been in all the games we have played this season but we definitely needed the three points today.“This result will certainly give a boost of confidence to the dressing room and hopefully we can build on it.”Dandy Town: T Gibbons, K Lathan, A, Lowe, D Ming, S Darrell, L Tucker, A Simmons, A Grant (T Wilson, 79), B Minors, S Tuzo, J StoweSubstitutes not used: L Simmons, A Gibbons, D Johnson, D Butterfield, R WellsGoals: Wilson, 88PHC: T Hall, M Simons, M Lambe, R Richardson, M Waldron, J Sealey, R DeShields (T Brown, 75), A Smith, K Lambe, C Robinson, S SmithGoals: Smith, 38, Brown, 75, Smith 83Substitutes not used: K Griffith, D Robinson, M Piper, T PlaceReferee: L RaynorMan of the match: A Smith (PHC)
