The Unit to perform on Friday nights

Local band The Unit will perform on Friday nights throughout this month as part of a partnership between the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and the Chewstick Foundation.

The free initiative, part of the Uncover the Arts programme, will take place at Chewstick’s new location on 81 Front Street.

The Unit comprises some of Bermuda’s finest professional musicians — Lionel Edwards, Andwele Simons, Rick Hawke and John Lee — and covers a wide variety of styles including rock, reggae, soca, Latin, jazz, blues, pop and R&B.

It holds the title of “Best Jazz Band” in Bermuda and represented the country in the 25th annual Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba in 2009.

The director of Community and Cultural Affairs, Heather Whalen, said: “We are pleased to partner with Chewstick to bring live entertainment to Hamilton on Friday nights during this festive season. We hope Bermudians young and old will venture in and hear the band while out doing their holiday shopping. The atmosphere will definitely cater to everyone.”

The Unit will perform on December 4, 11 and 18 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. For more information, contact the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs on 292-1681.
