Saltus win on back of Lipschutz double
Joshua Lipschutz scored two tries as Saltus came from behind to win the Boys A Division in the BSSF Primary School Flag Rugby Tournament.
Lipschutz crossed twice in the first half as Saltus beat Warwick Academy 5-2.
Cameron Morris gave Warwick an early lead before Saltus levelled through Lipschutz.
Morris put Warwick back in front before Cody Robinson went over the line to equalise again for Saltus.
Lipschutz then gave Saltus the lead for good late in the first half. Robinson and Louis Hammond scored a try each in the second half to seal the win for Saltus.
Earlier Saltus had defeated East End Primary 7-2 in the semi-finals. Lipschutz and Tyrese Charves scored two tries each, while Robinson Hammond and Max McCrimmon also scored. East End scorers were Naji Bean and Shye Blair Paynter. In the other semi-final Warwick defeated Prospect Primary 4-2, thanks to tries from Ryan Daniels, Ahzai Smith, Cameron Morris and Tajai Goater.
Meanwhile, the fast paced St George’s Prep team were runaway winners in the Boys B Division.
They outran Purvis Primary 7-0 in the semi-final before defeating Warwick Academy for the second time in the tournament 4-2 in the final.
Riley Robinson scored two tries for St George’s while Aunde Todd and Giani Santucci scored one each. Aaron Gardiner scored twice for Warwick.
Warwick survived a furious late rally from Saltus to win their semi final 7-6.
Warwick Academy did manage to win one final on Wednesday when their A team ran out comfortable 6-1 winners over Mount Saint Agnes in the girls’ tag rugby finals.
Warwick got two tries each from Shayla Cann and Asialaigh Hollis, while Majesty Wilson and Catherine Camara added a single try each. Ashley Horseman scored a consolation second-half try for MSA.
Warwick Academy A defeated Saltus 1 5-0 in the semi-finals, while MSA defeated Warwick Academy B 2-1 in sudden death.
