Porgies continued their march toward first place in the Fishbowl League after a 4-0 win over Rockfish last week.
Vernon Daniels bowled a 516 series for Porgies while Bruce Benevides was the top man for Rockfish. Porgies closed to within two-and-a-half points of the lead after Wahoo were beaten 3-1 by Mackerel.
Robert Darrell sizzled the lanes for Mackerel with a 233 game while Doug Hines returned a 518 series for the league leaders.
Joe Correia had the high men's series of 546 backed up by 514 from Sharon Malloy as Marlins beat Tuna 4-0. Clifford Maxwell battled in vain for Tuna with the second high series and game of 543 and 226 respectively.
Helen Redman led Hinds with the women's top series of 531 in a 3-1 win over Piranha while Everett Gibson added a third high men's game of 210 for good measure.
Angel Fish stopped Barracuda 3-1 with Wendy Cummings bowling the women's second high series and game of 524 and 201. Sue Simmons had a 505 series for the losers.
Ann Mitchell was number three in the women's series honours with a 519 to go with the top game of 212 as Snappers beat Cow Pollies 4-0.
The other match saw Norman Beek roll a 519 series to help Sharks defeat Dolphins 3-1.
Pro Staff dumped New Beginnings 17-3 to open a 211 -point lead over second-placed A&J Sportscards in the Mixed Classic league last week.
Clem Lespere led the onslaught with the men's second high series and game of 577 and 218.
Doug Hines paced Sportscards to a 14-6 triumph over Amflites with the top series of 617 and top game of 232. Team-mate Ann Mitchell had the women's third high series of 547. Donna Amaral had the women's high series of 577 and second high game of 213 in a losing cause.
East End Asphalt paved the Flagler Street Gang with a 16-4 triumph as Peaches Perinchief had the women's second high series of 565. For the Gang, Quinton Mallory just missed the honours list with a 563 series.
Us Until drew 10-10 with Perfect Combination. Frances Trott returned the women's top game of 220 for Us Until while for Combination, Winnette Lottimore had the third high game of 213 and a 545 series.
Elsewhere, Four Star Pizza beat Get Togethers 12-8. Basil Gibbons had a 549 series for Four Star and Dudley Browne a 550 series for the losers.
SOFTBALL SOF Scott Suddaby hit for the cycle in leading Chips Ltd. to a 25-9 pounding of Alexander Insurance Managers in Commercial Softball League action at Bernard Park on Wednesday night.
Suddaby went four-for-five and accounted for seven RBI, assisted by Dave Wall who went three-for-four with a homer and five RBI.
Chris Dickson went three-for-four with two RBI and Tim Proctor two-for-three with a homer and three RBI for AIM. Joe Logan was the winning pitcher and Dickson the loser.
Docksiders nipped Anfossi & Butterfield 14-13 with Mike Kreese going three-for-four and John Smith two-for-four. Jim Leitch went three-for-three with a homer and two RBI and Tony Smith three-for-four with three RBI for A&B.
Melodie Sneed was the winning pitcher and Marty Brandt the loser.
The opening game saw Butterfield & Steinhoff stop Arctic Penguins 20-14. Peter Johnson was the hitting star going four-for-five with six RBI while Rick Irvine went a perfect four-for-four with two RBI.
For Arctic, Shawn Bleeker went four-for-four with three RBI and Bruce Benevides two-for-four with three RBI. Dan Koshowski was the winning pitcher and Derek Smith the loser.
Tuesday's games saw Kempe & Whittle beat BF&M 20-5 in six innings, Bacardi Bats edge PTB 7-6 and Skandia upset previously unbeaten Sandys Sports Club 15-11.
The highlight was Mike Mallott's performance for Kempe & Whittle as he hit for the cycle in going five-for-five with two homers and eight RBI.
Eloy Castroverde's three-run homer in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in Bats' narrow win while Skandia evened their record at 2-2 at the expense of high-flying Sandys SC.
VOLLEYBALL VOL Saltus emerged victorious in both the Junior and Senior divisions of the Six-a-Side Co-Ed High School Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday.
In the Junior Division, Saltus II finished first in pool play followed by Saltus I, Northlands and Warwick Academy. But in the final between the two Saltus teams, the first team pulled out all the stops after trailing early, to win 13-15, 15-4, 15-4.
Two Saltus teams also also appeared in the Senior final with the first team having a more comfortable time in a 15-4 win.
Saltus I won pool one followed by Roger B. Chaffee I, Northlands I and Warwick Academy. Saltus II captured pool two followed by Roger B. Chaffee II and Northlands II.
GOLF GLF Quinton B. Bean, Ivan Smith and Howard Tucker were the winner of the Alfred Esdaille Memorial Invitational Golf Tournament held at St. George's Golf Club on Saturday.
In second place were the team captained by Daymon Bean while Kenneth Minors' team was third.
The longest drive was recorded by Darren Johnston of Team Four while Malcolm Simons of Team 11 was closest to the pin.
The team of Gary Dowling, St. Clair Simmons, Cornell Fox and Oliver Furbert were awarded a special prize for the highest score.
The event was sponsored by the Salvation Army Cedar Hill Men's Fellowship.
TARGET SHOOTING SHO Two shooters, Nelson Simons and Eugene Robinson, were tied for the lead with a total score of 192 at this week's competition of the Coral Reefs Rifle & Pistol Club.
Carl Reid was close behind with a tally of 189.
Meantime, there will be turkey shoots on the small bore and full bore ranges on Sunday, December 12 at the Warwick Range beginning at 7 a.m. and on Wednesday, December 15 at Prospect also at 7 a.m.
HARNESS RACING RAH The final race prior to the Boxing Day Stakes races takes place on Sunday at the Vesey Street Track with 35 ponies competing in 24 races.
