Shadow Tourism Minister Mr. David Allen was quoted in The Royal Gazette on Friday as saying Sir John would like to replace the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge in the Tourism portfolio. But because of the need to preserve caucus unity, Mr. Woolridge had the Premier "over a barrel'', Mr. Allen said.

In a prepared statement, Sir John rebutted Mr. Allen's remarks.

"For the record, I have, and the party has, every confidence in Mr.

Woolridge's ability,'' the Premier said. "He continues to do an excellent job in Tourism, and I have no plan or desire to replace him.'' MAN SUFFERING SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES AC Man suffering serious head injuries A 30-year-old St. David's man is lying in hospital with serious head and chest injuries after he lost control of his motor bike yesterday.

The man was riding east on St. David's Road at around 7.30 a.m. when he almost collided with a westbound bus. In trying to avoid the collision, however, he lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle and struck a wall and utility pole, causing serious head and chest injuries.

The man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit, where he is listed in stable condition.

A 21-year-old cyclist who suffered head injuries when he collided with the first bike after rounding a bend was also detained in hospital for observation. His case is not thought to be serious.

BERMUDA INCLUDED IN FALL SEAT SALE FLY Bermuda included in fall seat sale US-based Continental Airlines has included Bermuda in its fall seat sale, local representative Ms Judy Roberts said.

Round-trip fares from Bermuda to Newark, the airline's sole destination from here, are $182 plus tax on weekdays and $229 plus tax on weekends.

Tickets, which must be purchased seven days before the date of departure, have to be bought by October 31. All travel must be completed by February 10 of next year.

DAB REJECTS APPLICATION FROM ROTARY PLN DAB rejects application from Rotary The Rotary Club of St. George's got its wrist slapped yesterday by the Development Applications Board.

It rejected the club's application to erect a plaque by St. Catherine's Beach commemorating the landing of the survivors of the Sea Venture . The brass plaque was to rest on a boulder on the ground. Nearby, a layby was planned to allow traffic to pull off the road to read it.

But the Board said the club had not provided it with enough information to make a proper decision.
