A Bermudian woman was found dead inside her car in the United States after she crashed into a canal in Lauderdale Lakes.

Catherine Burr, who had left the Island several years ago to live in Florida, was 68 years old.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office told local media divers found Ms Burr’s body inside her vehicle.

Investigators said she lost control of her car in the parking lot of her apartment complex. Detectives believe Ms Burr then accidentally drove over a median and into the canal.

“The driver actually tried to turn away from the canal, but unfortunately she was unable to do so,” said BSO spokesperson Gina Carter.

“Detectives will be working on speaking to different witnesses and looking at all the evidence to determine what happened in this case.”
