Sun Life puts Williams on leadership scheme
The first Bermudian has been picked for a special programme run by financial services firm Sun Life aimed at giving recruits international experience.
Rochelle Williams, who has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honours from Ireland’s University College Cork, has been selected to join Sun Life’s rotational leadership development scheme.
Ms Williams will start off working with the operations team in Sun Life Financial International, based in Hamilton.
Andrew Darfoor, senior vice-president and CEO of Sun Life Financial International, said: “Rochelle was selected for displaying excellence in her previous work experiences and for her strong academic merit.”
He added: “The goal of the rotational leadership development programme is to train the next generation of Bermudian leaders in the insurance and financial services industry.
“We look forward to great things from Rochelle as she grows in this programme and with Sun Life Financial.”
Ms Williams, who graduated last year, gained business experience in insurance and reinsurance during work placements while still a student.
While at university, she was an international student ambassador and a member of the Management and Marketing Society.
The Sun Life programme will in time sign up three Bermudian recruits, who will train in the US and Canada as well as in Bermuda in preparation for a senior role with the company on the Island.
The scheme is an extension of an existing programme in Sun Life’s home country of Canada, where 45 graduates are on the fast track to top positions.
Bermuda is the head office for Sun Life’s international business, offering support in Latin America, the Middle East and Asia — as seen as growth markets.
Sun Life has had a presence in Bermuda since 1881 and set up its international arm nearly 20 years ago.
The company has more than $600 million in assets under management worldwide.
