Three-way tie at top
Three teams share the top spot in the First Division on seven points after Flanagan’s Onions suffered their first loss of the season yesterday at PHC Field where Young Men’s Social Club handed them a 2-1 defeat.
Social Club’s win moved them level on points with the leaders, while St David’s made it a three-way tie after a hard fought 4-3 win over Wolves at Lord’s. Angelo Cannonier opened the scoring for the home team before Jerome Usher scored the first of his two goals and Shea Pitcher Jr scored the third as St David’s led 4-3 at the half.
Wolves scored from Raymond Butterfield and Lamelle Paynter before Mikeal Ming kept it close with a third goal for the visitors in the second half.
BAA and St George’s both failed to capitalise on Flanagan’s loss as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Goose Gosling Field where Juastin Denbrook gave the visitors the lead in the 21st minute and Morricko Iris equalised in the 28th minute to extend BAA’s unbeaten streak to sixteen games going back to last season.
Both had chances to win the game in the second half as Mishael Paynter made some crucial saves in the St George’s goal and captain Jarreau Hayward cleared an effort off the line. Seconds before the final whistle Melvin Simmons put a header just inches over the BAA crossbar as St George’s almost grabbed a last gasp winner. In the other matches Ireland Rangers beat Paget 5-2 to record their first win of the season while bottom team X-Roads picked up their first point with a 3-3 draw with Somerset Eagles at Garrison Field.
