Sailors faced double trouble

Marine Police helped three sailors after their sailboat ran aground near Darrell's Island on Saturday.“It appears that a sailboat had run aground in the Darrell's Island, Paget area.”

However, shortly after the sailboat ‘Cats Whiskers' was returned to its mooring, the sailors had to call for assistance again so they could be returned to shore.

According to Harbour Radio, at around noon on Saturday they received a request for assistance from the sailboat after the three sailors on board lost control of the vessel.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police said: “Around 12.30pm on Saturday, the Police Marine Unit responded to a report of a vessel in distress.

Members of the Marine Police managed to secure the vessel, but one officer sustained an ankle injury during the process and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

According to Harbour Radio, the sailors contacted the Marine Police again a short time later.

A spokesman for Harbour Radio said: “They returned the boat to its mooring, but they didn't have a tender, so they required assistance coming back to shore.”
