Bus drivers to meet on Monday
Bus drivers are unhappy with a new rota system put in place by the Government.Last night the Public Transportation Board union representative, Louis Somner, told ZBM news the new Minister of Transport, Terry Lister, has put the schedule in place without discussing it with drivers. He claimed the new rota would add stress and would be bad for bus drivers’ health. An emergency meeting will be held Monday at the Bermuda Industrial Union.A Government spokesman told The Royal Gazette: “Discussions concerning changing the Bus Operators’ schedule have been ongoing for over a year with many productive meetings charting the way forward. On November 30, 2010 the Ministry wrote to the Bermuda Industrial Union and asked them to make contact to set up a meeting but the request was ignored.“The Ministry moved ahead with implementing the new roster and set a start date and sent the letter to the union on December 30. “Only when the start date was set did the Operators and Union ask for a meeting. That meeting was held [on Friday].”
