Nolan fires out World Cup warning

Tough job ahead: Bermuda women's coach Robinson

Aaliyah Nolan warmed up for Bermuda Women’s Under-20 World Cup campaign in Haiti this week by bagging a hat-trick for Navaro College at the weekend.

The Bermuda striker also created a goal in her side’s 10-1 hammering of Jacksonville.

Nolan’s form is just the boost Naquita Robinson, the Bermuda women’s coach, needs ahead of her side’s first game against Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Robinson has had to prepare the team with only three squad members on Island, and her first chance to get all 20 players together for a training session will be in Haiti tomorrow.

“We’ve been preparing as best as we can at this time, given that most of our players are overseas,” Robinson said.

“We probably have maybe three starters locally based, so it has been a bit difficult to work on a game plan.

“So, again, it’s going to be something that we’ll try to work on in our training session on Tuesday before the match on Wednesday.”

Bermuda must finish in the top two of their group in order to progress to the next stage of qualifying, but with Dominican Republic pulling out of the competition, it means their task has become that much harder.

Puerto Rico on Wednesday, will be followed by a game against the hosts on Sunday, who they were originally scheduled to play first before Dominican withdrew.

“The schedule has changed in Haiti’s favour,” Robinson said. “But, it is what it is, we have to play the games as they come, and what doesn’t change is the fact that we need to finish in the top two.”
